Most current "folk" music IS insipid. Especially if it's a bunch of privileged white kids from the 'burbs, i.e. Fox and the Bird. Folk music was either songs sang by the oppressed and enslaved, or songs sang to pass along stories (true and fiction) to children & grandchildren. At best, what we hear in the folk realm these days, is "Folk inspired". Most likely inspired by something Connor Oberst had a hand in.And Neon Indian is so boring. Am I the only one that nods off during that stuff? He's like the local Moby. Lots of local media buzz, but who'd want to own a copy?
